March 2015 Suffolk Coastal confirms to put their 3.23-acre site at Melton Hill up for sale. This is part of its plans to move to new pupose built offices near Melton Station in 2016/17. The existing Melton Hill site will be developed into nearly 70 new homes, a mix of rpivately owned units and 1/3rd Social ‘Affordable Homes’ to let.

SCDC says £3.9m is needed for the new HQ project. Suffolk Coastal District Council has planned to clear the site of all existing buildings except for the two distinct historic buildings on the main road entrance; these two buildings have for many years given a certain character to Woodbridge and may or may not be saved; it is hoped the approved developer will convert these into homes or offices or similar.

Robert Whiting, Suffolk Coastal’s cabinet member with responsibility for resources and chairman of its accommodation project board, said:

“The sale of Melton Hill will create an exciting opportunity for new homes right next to Woodbridge town centre, with stunning views across the River Deben.

“We are investing in a modern building, which is sustainable, cheaper to run and will be adaptable for our future needs.”
