DRUMMER BOY & LANDMARK BUILDINGS
planned to be Bulldozed?
Two historic landmark buildings in Woodbridge that front the existing Melton Hill Suffolk Coastal Offices could be bulldozed? Making way for ‘London Style Blocks of Flats’ – were revealed at a pre-planning meeting held on 18th April 2017 (…the previous April 2016 proposals announced to the public suggested both buildings and Drummer Boy would be kept).
The two Heritage Buildings and the ‘Woodbridge Drummer Boy’ are ‘Gateway Landmarks’ to the historic riverside town, collectively seen as you enter Woodridge from Melton – an intrinsic part of the historic character of Woodbridge… for these to be bulldozed without a proper public hearing could be seen as very questionable?
Evening Star Report February 2017 stated the ‘Drummer Boy’ would now remain in place and that the Suffolk Coastal District Council had withdrawn its application to remove the statue. However the latest panning proposals would suggest otherwise?

I thought the Drummer Boy was going to be moved to the new SCDC offics at Melton?
Thank you for your comment… as far as we are aware Suffolk Coastal District Council have withdrawn their application to remove the ‘Drummer Boy’ statue. Until the official Planning Application has been registered with SCDC we won’t know the fate of the ‘Drummer Boy’ or if the two historic Landmark Buildings that front the existing site will remain? You are encourage to contact the SCDC Planning Department for further information.
